Week 4 Karen Arana

I took this picture on Wednesday at around midday during one of my breaks between my classes. I decided to take this picture because I am usually under this particular palm tree taking advantage of the shade that it provides me. I was lying down and I appreciated the misty clouds, the warmth of the sun and the fresh grass under my body. I felt mellow and Zen because I was not looking at anything or anyone that reminded me of school or class. Being surrounded by nature is always refreshing and soothing which allows me to relax and center myself before I have to worry about all the things I have to do. I felt one with the earth. Happy Earth Day.

This picture inspires me to really take time to myself and to stay away from everyone else in order to center myself. I get time to take in nature, which is being mistreated in many places around the world. I believe this picture relates to the stage because it gives off a peaceful feeling. The source of light (sun) is actually behind the Palm tree leaves although it doesn’t look that way in this picture. In this picture it looks like the source of light is coming from the left side but it can also just be a reflection on the clouds. Therefore, in order to relate it to onstage lighting, the lighting should be natural and washed out. A Fresnel brushstroke would look really nice and add to the mellow feeling. A cool blue would look nice, as part of the sky and the white would represent the source of light instead of a typical amber look. I will definitely go with the white because it's what looks natural and simple. This lighting onstage would look fresh and it can encourage people to treat our earth with the respect it deserves.

  1. Great image and commentary! Love the dark silhouette of the palm tree and the neat perspective of taking the photo from underneath it! The sun also creates a halo of light around the sharp edges making it seem kind like its emphasizing the importance of nature too! Love it!
