Week 2: Karen Arana

In the distance it looks grey and gloomy and it looks as if at any moment a storm will begin. On the other side, there is bright sunlight that to me represents hope. I interpreted the clouds and the sun as a battle in the skies like the ones seen in cartoons when the weather changes from cloudy to sunny within seconds. I felt like I was caught between the transition of the clouds and the sun and that made me feel hopeful when the bright sun was shining on the yellow houses.

I believe this photo relates to the stage because light cues can change the mood and emotions within seconds. I would probably use Fresnel’s in order to replicate the smooth wash of the clouds and sunlight. A different option would be to use Leko's to replicate the sunlight but first I would like to see how the different light fixtures look onstage. However, if I ended up using a Leko I would probably use a gobo to add texture and shadows that are seen on this picture.

  1. Great picture!! I love the dark imagery of the clouds contrasted with the bright and clear sunlight that you can tell is shining on the objects in the picture...that yellow house is shiny! and this would be a tricky one to light, as the actual sunlight is bright and crisp and strong much like the quality of a leko, but the looming cloudiness is still lingering...nice job!
